Heavy Rigid Synchromesh Truck License Training

Big Rig Truck Driving School offers comprehensive training programs for aspiring truck drivers in the HR Synchromesh driving course. Our program is designed to equip students with the driving skills and knowledge needed to operate heavy vehicles with synchromesh transmissions.

Our training program emphasizes practical skills and real-world scenarios, allowing students to gain valuable experience behind the wheel of heavy rigid trucks. In addition to mastering synchromesh gear systems, students will also learn essential skills such as road safety, efficient vehicle handling, and pre-trip inspections. Our experienced instructors provide personalized coaching to ensure each student is fully prepared for their licensing exams.

What is a HR Synchromesh Truck?

A HR (Heavy Rigid) truck is a vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) exceeding 8 tonnes, typically used for transporting goods or items that require a larger carrying capacity. The synchromesh transmission in these trucks allows for smoother gear changes, making it easier for drivers to navigate through different driving conditions.

The overwhelmingly popular synchromesh gearbox is the most favorable license to obtain with the least amount of effort. This licence covers about 80% of all HR vehicles. The synchromesh gearbox is most similar to a car's manual transmission. Enrolling in this course requires a manual vehicle licence.

You will get the knowledge and skills required to operate a 16-ton vehicle with 12 speeds (6 ratios, each with a low and high range option), as well as split shifting. This course is a great option if you:

Hold a valid WA C-class licence for at least 2 years OR an MR/LR licence for at least 1 year.
Pass a DoT-required eye test.
Understand high and low-range gears.
Disclose any medical conditions that could affect training.

A Heavy Rigid truck has two sorts of licences under the category: non-restricted or restricted. Big Rig Truck Driving School provides both non-restricted (open) and condition B or restricted licenses, covering synchromesh or automatic transmissions. The gearbox distinguishes the two licences. The HR non-restricted licence is for a road ranger or non-synchromesh gearbox. During the program, you'll be practically trained about:

Our instructors emphasize defensive driving techniques, proper vehicle maintenance, and adhering to traffic laws. We train students to handle emergency situations like brake failures or inclement weather.

Along with practical skills, we cover theoretical concepts like load distribution, weight limits, and fuel efficiency. Our goal is to create well-rounded drivers capable of operating heavy vehicles safely and efficiently.
